Good Evening All!
Are you sitting comfortably? This may be a long post so you have been warned!!
The beauty of having a blog and being able to check out other peoples blogs means that every now and again you come across something that is not only a worthy cause but can also make you quite emotional. One of the blogs that I follow regularly is Tosh`s.
and she was telling us about a fantastic card drive that Cammie
is doing on her blog in aid of the carers of Alzheimers sufferers. She has written a very heartfelt piece telling us all about the drive, how to enter and the fantastic companies that have donated blog candy.
Please check out this blog, as you know it is a subject very close to my heart as my Mum is in a care home suffering from this cruel illness. Not only that but the awesome amount of candy that is on offer to the winner made me weep. I cannot explain how emotional it made me to think that all these people care enough to donate the amount they have.
Cammie can explain it much better than I ever could so please pop over and take a look.
Ofcourse I have made a card and I will be giving it to the staff at Mums care home when I visit on saturday. It occurred to me after reading about the card drive that I`m very quick to post a rant on my blog when things don`t quite go the way I think they should but I`m not very good at letting everyone know how much I appreciate what the care staff do for my mum. They do a fantastic job that I know I couldn`t do myself. I would find it hard to do some of the things they do, for my mum but they`re doing it for people they have only known a short time. Naturally I speak to the staff and go along to assessments and meetings and I always say thank you but this is a way of showing that I really do appreciate them.
This is the card I will be giving the staff on saturday.
I am also entering this card into The Shabby Tea Room Challenge
which this week is called `Pearls and Pastels` and has this gorgeous bracelet for inspiration.
As soon as I saw the photo I knew I wanted to make a card, I mean, this is so far up my street. It also gave me the oppotunity to make an over the top, all bells and whistles card that I could combine with the card drive.
The actual design of the card is pretty basic but it`s much bigger than I normally make. Although it`s a standard A5 I`ve made it a top fold so I`ve used 2 sheets of card to get the required length.
The DP is Papermania Blueberry Hill. I love the pink roses against the blue background. I also think that the paisley pattern at the lower end is a perfect contrast.
I used my Martha Stewart Doily punch along the rose paper and also added some lace and some baby pink ribbon and a bow.
The sentiment is by Papertrey from the Autumn Abundance set and is stamped in Orchid. I think this sentiment says it all.
I cut out the sentiment with a labels 4 die then cut a frame with 2 sizes of the same die.
I`ve added some flat backed pearls to the frame and along the bottom right corner of the card.
I`ve also added some pink roses to the corner edges of the frame.
I know it`s a bit flambouyant but I`m really pleased with how it`s turned out and it`s just what I was aiming at.
Now for my `Whoohoo`.
I made `featured stamper` on the Color throw down challenge # 111.
How cool is that!!!
What surprises me most is that I seem to get more recognition for the cards that I`m either not too pleased with or that I have a distinct lack of imagination in. Now what does that say about me? Lol.
Right, well if you`ve got this far you are probably ready for a hot drink or a lie down in a darkened room lol.
Thanks for sticking with me and please don`t forget to visit Cammies blog, thanks...
