Less is More #5 Pastels

Hello all.hope you are enjoying your Sunday.

We have a colour challenge of sorts this week at Less is More where we are to use pastels.

What I want to know is why, if I don`t have a problem with CAS and I don`t normally have a problem with pastels, am I finding this challenge so flippin` hard.

I have made a card although I`m sure I could make a better one and probably will this week but I need all the criticism I can get, good or bad I promise I won`t cry ( for long).

Here goes,
It`s one of those cards that seem fine in the preparation but once finished you`re not sure about.

White base card.
Same white card run through Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder, Scalloped along bottom with Spellbinders Jumbo Scalloped Border, matted onto lilac card also scalloped.
Raised from base card with foam pads.
Image is Flourishes Sweetpeas coloured with Promarkers and cut out with nestie oval.
I`ve added a punched butterfly, some pale green ribbon for contrast and some lilac gems.
The sentiment isRubbadubbado.

Please let me know what you think and please be honest.

I`ll be back during the week with all my news and to tell you about the lovely surprise I got from another LiM entrant.

Thanks for popping in...Lynne xxx

  1. A beautiful card Lynne - I also had trouble with pastels this week and like you have no idea why! I like the embossing and the layering onto the lilac card and the die cut image is lovely and so beautifully coloured. If I have a comment that's not positive I'm not sure about the ribbon - don't know whether it's the colour or just that my eye was drawn to the ribbon rather than the lovely floral oval.... but then I'm no expert!(As you will see if you look at my blog! )
If I was lucky enbough to receive the card just as it is I wouldn't be complaining!!! LOL

  5. This is so elegant Lynne and I love the embossing and the wide scallop. The image is gorgeous but I know what Viv means - it was the ribbon that caught my eye first. xx

  6. Lynne, I think the girls have got it.. the ribbon would be fine if it just had a small knot in it instead of the large loops. The colour may be a tad light, and it may be a tad wide, but have a look and see what a change in knot would make.
I'd be interested to see too. The rest of the card is amazing!
Great to see you again Lynne,

  7. Hi Lynne . . . I really like this card and its layout. I'm with the others on the ribbon though. I think it's the colour more than anything. If it had been lilac to match the rest of the card it would be more co-ordinated. I like Chrissie's idea of a knot rather than the bow, but that's cuz that's what I always do as I'm RUBBISH at tying bows! LOL!

  8. Hi Lynne,
Ok I'm not trying to jump on the band wagon, but I agree...the ribbon is just not quite right...maybe the colour or the thicknes. Maybe try a thinner purple one? Or how about organza? The card itself is very lovely tho! Please post a pic if you do change it...I'd love to see what you did!

  10. Lovely card Lynne, have to agree in a way about the ribbon think maybe it's just a bit too "heavy". Either needs a sheer ribbon or a knot - but beautiful just the same. How many times do we make a card and then look at it and think "umm, not sure" I do it all the time!!

  11. Lovely card Lynne, only thing I saw was that the bow covered part of your oval bringing it more to focus rather than your pretty image. x

  12. Lynne this is a beautiful card, love the sweetpeas and the embossing but have to agree with everyone else about the ribbon!

  13. I must agree with the others...the ribbon really draws my eye from the beautiful image. I think perhaps I would have used a pale lavender ribbon - maybe a little narrower. I love the embossing...and the oval image. Simply beautiful!

  14. I love most of the card Lynne but not the ribbon. I don't mind the bow, although perhaps it is a tad big I think it's the colour. A darker green to match that in your colouring, or a purple hue would fix it I think. I love the dotty embossing - that's a great way to "fill" the white space.

  15. I love this card, but I think it just needs a little lavender ribbon in organza or similar - I have a mare of a time matching ribbons thats my excuse for having to have lots of them! LOL

  17. Organza lilac ribbon over the top of your green one would have looked nice and a knot would definitely look better than a bow...
The SweetPea stamp is stunning! Been looking at their designs and am swaying towards getting a couple.
    Very elegant card:-)

  18. It's definitely the ribbon, perhaps a very pale lilac one, but other than that it's a great card.

  19. Hi Lynne
Your card is beautiful, I love the way you have overlapped the image off the edge of the oval
Personally Id not use the ribbon, or as has been suggested just knotted. Even a sheer would have picked up the white underneath and not looked as solid. Extra embellies can make or break a design, even down to a small gem!
Your support is much appreciated and hope you come back again and again

  20. You've made a lovely card, I love the image and the embossing too. I'm not too sure about the ribbon either, I put one on mine that I wasn't too sure about last week. Jo x

  21. I think the trouble is that there's not enough green in the oval image to make that ribbon seem right. I love your big bows, as you know, but perhaps not on a CAS card!

  23. I am loving the sweet pea stamp and the way you have it at the side of the oval looks great. I have to agree about the ribbon - it doesn't really complement the rest of the card but it is still beautiful.

  25. It's a great card again Lynne, I liked it just the way it was when I first looked. Now I look again I agree about the bow ( sorry), a sheer lilac one tied in a knot would really enhance it.Having said that I struggled with mine too, even though I do pastels most of the time anyway lol! Still we keep learning every week don't we :O),Viv xx
